A network for newsroom trainers

We need to compile a listing of the best sites to provide materials, discussions and other fodder for newsroom training.

I'll get things started with a plug for No Train, No Gain, still number one when you Google "newsroom training." NTNG hasn't grown much lately, partly because I've been too busy to do my old job of content coordinator and bug people to provide materials and partly because Dolf Els, our webmaster, has been too busy to post the materials I sent him (he's developing a multimedia section to place some of it).

Of course, Poynter Online remains one of the most valuable training resources, though it is much more than that. I suspect I am not the only one who hasn't yet taken the time to familiarize myself with what all the revamped site offers and where everything is, but it still offers more fresh content than anyone in the busines. And Poynter's News University provides outstanding online courses, many of them free.

And my former colleagues at the American Press Institute offer a wealth of seminars, innovation help and other materials, both at the home site (which needs revamping, but efforts to do that have been thwarted; it's a long story) and at the Newspaper Next site, where I understand my database report is due to be published soon.

Our world is training fast enough that I hesitate to plug my old Training Tracks blog, which started at NTNG and moved to API, but some of the pieces there probably are still timely.

Debbie Gump and her colleagues at the Committee of Concerned Journalists offer a lot of resources at their site, as well as opportunities for on-site training.

Other organizations offering training materials and events along with other material at their sites include:
Investigative Reporters and Editors
American Society of Newspaper Editors
APME NewsTrain
Society of Professional Journalists
Project for Excellence in Journalism
Nieman Narrative Digest
National Press Club
Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism
Knight Digital Media Center
J-Lab
Journalism Center on Children and Families
International Center for Journalists
Newslab

And some of the personal blogs and web sites by journalists that offer valuable advice for trainers and for journalists seeking to improve:
Dick Weiss (already a member of Newscoach2)
Michele McLellan (also an early Newscoach2 member)
Howard Owens
Bob Baker
Ryan Sholin
Mark Briggs
Pat Thornton
Shawn Smith
Scott Karp

That's a good starter list, but I'm sure I've forgotten some (or haven't learned about them yet). What are your favorite newsroom training resources and blogs?

This one is a bit of an aside to training, but for discussions of style and grammar I like Talk Wordy to Me: http://talkwordy.com
